Brookestone Village: 25 Years of Compassionate, Person-Centered Care
For more than 25 years, Brookestone Village has focused on providing high-quality care while honoring dignity, compassion, and meaningful personal connection. Since opening on June 1, 2000, the skilled nursing community has cared for more than 15,000 residents and their families through long-term care, short-term rehabilitation, and memory support.
That commitment has guided continued growth and new opportunities to meet the needs of residents. In 2015, the addition of Fountainview, a rehab-only household, expanded short-term rehabilitation services, while enhancements to memory support and long-term care have helped residents age in place with individualized attention.
Investments in resident-centered environments, therapy spaces, and community areas have also created supportive spaces for rehabilitation, memory support, and daily living. Along the way, that dedication has earned recognition including the AHCA NCAL Silver Quality Award, Skilled Nursing Week programming awards, U.S. News recognition, and multiple Best of Omaha and Omaha’s Choice awards.
At the center of that growth remains a focus on the people being served. Person-centered care and dignity in life guide interactions and decisions, with team members working to understand each resident’s preferences, history, and goals so every individual feels respected, empowered, and valued.
Creating a Culture of Support
Providing exceptional care begins with creating an environment where employees feel valued, supported, and connected to their work.
More than 80% of staff report high satisfaction with their experience, while the nursing team experiences less than 30% turnover. That compares favorably with the cited national average of 46% and Nebraska average of 50%, reflecting a workplace built around stability, collaboration, and a shared commitment to care.
Leadership plays an active role in building that culture through an open-door approach that encourages communication and feedback at every level. Leaders remain present and approachable, recognize employee achievements, and invest in training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities that help employees build confidence and advance in their roles.
Employees also have opportunities to help shape the workplace. An Administrator’s Advisory Council includes representatives from all shifts and positions, providing frontline input into decision-making and helping develop practical solutions to operational needs. Employee-led groups, including an Events Committee, create additional opportunities for engagement, appreciation, and team building.
That culture extends to supporting colleagues when they need it most. A monthly team-funded lunch program, originally proposed by employees, creates a direct support fund for team members experiencing unexpected financial hardships.
Putting Residents First
The same focus on people shapes the experience of residents and their families. Customer satisfaction has remained above 90% for several years, reflecting an emphasis on personalized, compassionate, and high-quality care that responds to individual needs.
Brookestone Village also maintains strong compliance standards, reporting only one survey deficiency compared with a cited national rate of 9.6 deficiencies per survey. Combined with employee satisfaction and retention, these results demonstrate how a strong workplace culture and commitment to quality can support the experience of residents and their families.
Understanding each resident as an individual remains an important part of that approach. Preferences, personal histories, and goals help guide care so residents feel respected, empowered, and valued throughout every stage of care.
Strengthening the Greater Omaha Community
That commitment to care extends beyond residents and employees through partnerships, charitable giving, and service throughout the community.
The team supports the Open Door Mission through donation drives collecting food, clothing, and essential supplies for individuals and families experiencing hardship. A partnership with the American Red Cross also brings together employees, residents, families, and community members through frequent blood drives supporting the region’s emergency blood supply.
Over the past three years, charitable donations and fundraising have supported organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association, Dreamweavers, the Miss Kay Foundation, and the YMCA, helping support education, wellness programs, and services for individuals and families across the community.
That community involvement also reaches workforce and career development. Partnerships with Millard Public Schools provide student shadowing opportunities that introduce young people to careers in health care and senior services. The organization also serves as a clinical and nursing shadowing site for colleges such as College of Saint Mary, providing hands-on learning experiences that strengthen the local health care pipeline.
Involvement with the Nebraska Health Care Association and American Health Care Association provides another opportunity to share best practices, participate in innovative care initiatives, and contribute to quality improvement programs benefiting residents and the broader long-term care community.
More Than 25 Years of Service
From expanding rehabilitation and memory support to investing in employees and serving the Greater Omaha community, the past 25 years have been shaped by a consistent focus on compassionate, person-centered care.
The organization continues to create an environment where residents are treated with dignity, employees have opportunities to contribute and grow, and community partnerships provide opportunities to make an impact beyond its doors.
As Brookestone Village looks ahead, its mission remains rooted in the principles that have guided it since 2000: providing high-quality care while honoring dignity, compassion, and meaningful personal connection.
