Paul Zimmerer and his two sons started Lindsay Corporation in Lindsay, Nebraska, as a small farm equipment business dedicated to helping local farmers solve real challenges. Early on, they developed an irrigation system that worked on hilly land, opening up new possibilities for farmers in the area.
More than a century later, that same spirit of practical innovation guides the company’s growth.
Today, Lindsay has operations in over a dozen countries and has equipment in more than 90 around the world. Even with this global reach, the company’s roots are still in Nebraska. In the early 2000s, Lindsay moved its headquarters to Omaha to help with international growth and to bring in more talent.
“Omaha has been a great spot for us,” said Randy Wood, president and CEO. “It gives us access to strong talent, and it keeps us close to the heart of our industry. This is where many of our customers are, and where center pivot irrigation really started.”
Purpose-Driven Work That Matters
Across the globe, Lindsay’s work is propelled by a clear and ambitious purpose: to conserve natural resources, expand our world’s potential, and enhance the quality of life for people.
Lindsay’s irrigation systems help farmers grow more food with fewer resources, which is especially important as the world’s demand for food increases. Right now, only 20% of farmland is irrigated, but that land produces about 40% of the world’s food.
“That’s why efficiency matters so much,” Wood said. “If we can help customers grow more with less water and energy, we’re making a real difference for the world, and for their bottom line.”
Lindsay also works to improve public safety with its infrastructure solutions. For example, the company’s Road Zipper System™ manages traffic lanes and has been installed at key transportation hubs such as the Golden Gate Bridge, where it has helped prevent crossover accidents since its commissioning.
“We’re not just selling equipment anymore,” Wood said.“ We’re helping our customers operatemore efficiently, more safely, and more sustainably over the long term.”
Investing in Innovation and the Future
Going forward, Lindsay is making big investments to support its next stage of growth. The company is currently executing the largest capital project in its history: a $90 million modernization of its manufacturing plant in Lindsay, Nebraska. This project aims to make the facility safer and more efficient, maintain high product quality, and strengthen Lindsay’s ties to the region.
“We’re doubling down on our roots,” Wood said. “This investment shows we’re committed to Nebraska and to building a world-class operation for the future.”
At the same time, Lindsay continues to grow its worldwide reach through an in-market, for-market manufacturing strategy. This means producing products closer to customers in order to improve responsiveness and competitiveness.
Technology is becoming more important for Lindsay. With advanced irrigation tools and AI-based solutions, the company is helping customers build long-term partnerships instead of just making one-time purchases.
“It’s about creating smarter systems,” Wood said. “We want to help our customers make better decisions every day, and extend our relationship beyond the initial equipment purchase.”
A Culture That Attracts and Retains Talent
As Lindsay has grown, its culture has remained a defining strength. The company puts strong emphasis on safety, quality, integrity, collaboration, and creativity. These values strike a chord with employees, particularly in the Midwest. Omaha plays a key role in supporting that culture. With a strong pipeline of talent from regional universities and a workforce grounded in agricultural and technical expertise, the city provides a natural fit for Lindsay’s mission.“
I think our culture is one of our biggest advantages,” Wood confirmed. “People want to belong to something meaningful. They want to be appreciated, and they want to know their work matters.”
Lindsay strengthens its culture by focusing on employee engagement. In recent years, the company has worked with Gallup to measure and prioritize engagement, leading to steady improvements. Employees are encouraged to share ideas, question decisions, and help keep the company true to its principles.
Strengthening Community Through Connection
Even though Lindsay operates worldwide, its bond with Omaha is still at the heart of the company. This connection shows in its community work and its involvement with the Greater Omaha Chamber.
“I think Omaha’s strength is the way people show up for each other,” Wood said. “There’s a real feeling of community here. People support each other, they give back, and they work hard.”
Lindsay’s leaders are active in local nonprofits and charity work, which strengthens the company’s ties to the region. Through the Chamber, Lindsay connects with the wider business community by joining programs that encourage collaboration, leadership, and economic growth. Events like the YP Summit help employees grow their networks and get more involved in the city.
“The Chamber plays a key role in bringing people together,” Wood reflected. “It helps make Omaha a stronger, more competitive place to do business.”
