2025 Business of the Year

Selected from our many Business of The Month winners, the Business of The Year sets the standard for excellence and leadership in our business community.

Groundworks

Groundworks is North America’s leading foundation repair and water management solutions company. Groundworks has been serving homeowners across the U.S. and Canada for decades, providing quality home repair solutions. Groundworks is a BBB-accredited business and a multi-time recipient of the Angi Super Service Award. Its 50-plus years of combined expertise bring Omaha homeowners innovative solutions and industry-leading warranties to protect their biggest investment — their home.

In 2022, Groundworks, formerly CLS, joined forces with Groundworks, the nation’s largest foundation repair company. This gave the company the opportunity to grow and provided additional benefits to all employees. The restructure gave homeowners additional service solutions, better warranties, exclusive products, and more. Groundworks recently celebrated 33 years in the Omaha community.

Customer feedback is extremely valuable and is a part of each home project. Viewed as a negative service, foundation repair and water management can be invasive and expensive to an unknowing homeowner. The company has the responsibility to treat the customer with utmost respect and provide an honest, permanent solution to their biggest investment. Groundworks has a 4.9-star rating on Google My Business and is A+ accredited with the Better Business Bureau.

Groundworks provides a daily mission to protect, repair, and improve customers’ greatest asset — their home. This mission is displayed in the office and warehouse to remind employees of their daily goal. The company continues to invest in its people and the communities it serves.

Sustained Excellence

Organizations that consistently perform at a high level set themselves apart over time. This category recognizes businesses that have earned an Excellence Award for multiple consecutive years, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to leadership, innovation, and impact.

ACCESSbank

ACCESSbank is a locally owned community bank serving the Greater Omaha area since 2007, built on a foundation of relationship-based banking and personalized service. Recognized with multiple honors — including Forbes Best-In-State Bank, Best Banks to Work For by American Banker, and 13 consecutive years as a Best Bank by B2B Omaha Magazine — the organization continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to its clients, employees, and community.

What began as a single location with twelve employees has grown into a top ten bank in the Omaha metro, now serving clients across six locations with a team of more than 100 employees. Growth has been largely organic, guided by consistent service and long-standing client relationships. In 2025, the launch of a virtual branch and digital solutions team marked a significant step forward, introducing enhanced online capabilities and expanded support while maintaining a personalized approach.

A strong internal culture supports this continued success. High employee engagement, low turnover, and ongoing investment in professional development reflect a workplace where individuals feel valued and supported. Client satisfaction remains equally strong, with high review scores and a relationship-driven model.

Through strategic giving, employee-led initiatives, and community partnerships, ACCESSbank continues to invest in the long-term strength of the region it serves.

Today, through its integrated businesses — Carson Wealth, Carson Coaching, and Carson Partners — it continues to expand its footprint through organic growth and strategic acquisitions while maintaining a strong presence in Omaha.

Carson has also prioritized the development of future industry leaders through its NextGen career path and mentorship framework, creating structured opportunities for growth and advancement.

A strong culture supports this continued success, with high employee engagement and recognition as a Best Place to Work. Employees are empowered to give back through volunteer time off and charitable matching programs, reinforcing a culture of purpose and connection.

For 90 years, Riekes Equipment has specialized in solving material handling challenges, helping businesses improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability. From forklifts and cranes to warehouse design, the company has supported thousands of businesses across the country while maintaining a strong commitment to its employees and the communities it serves.

Growth has been shaped by resilience and innovation. After a devastating fire destroyed its Omaha facility in 1993, operations were restored in just weeks, demonstrating a deep commitment to customers. Continued investment followed, including the development of a 9,000-square-foot Customer Discovery Center in Omaha, where businesses can experience solutions firsthand. Over the years, consistent recognition — including multiple Dealer of Excellence honors and 16 consecutive Most Valued Partner awards — reflects a long-standing reputation for service and reliability.

A focus on continuous improvement is central to operations. Customer feedback is actively gathered and addressed through structured programs, leading to best-in-class customer satisfaction scores. Internally, a strong emphasis on employee engagement has resulted in a positive culture with much lower turnover than industry averages.

Front Porch also serves as a leading voice at the state and municipal level in support of public policies and investments that promote affordable housing development, and as a convener, connector, and strategic partner across the affordable housing ecosystem.

The organization has experienced sustained growth since its inception in 2021, including a growth of staff, partnerships, and programs. Through its affiliation with the BDO Alliance USA, Hayes combines local expertise with broader national resources while maintaining a relationship-driven approach.

Ascend Technology Group

Ascend Technology Group delivers innovative IT solutions that help businesses operate smarter, faster, and more securely. The company specializes in managed services, cloud solutions, and strategic technology consulting tailored to each client’s needs. Its team is committed to building long-term partnerships by providing reliable support and forward-thinking guidance. At Ascend, technology is turned into a competitive advantage.

Ascend Technology Group has been helping Omaha’s small businesses and nonprofits use technology more confidently since 2005. It began as a traditional break-fix IT shop, but as small business servers became the norm in the early 2000s and the needs of small and mid-market companies changed, the company reinvented itself as a managed IT services provider. Innovation has meant staying a step ahead of what clients will face next. When cybercrime surged in 2018, the company made a deliberate pivot to build cybersecurity expertise by investing in tools, training, and processes that had previously only been accessible to larger enterprises. By 2020, as on-premise servers gave way to the cloud, Ascend evolved again, helping clients safely adopt Microsoft 365 and modern cloud platforms.

Today, with a team of 18 serving roughly 100 Omaha-based organizations, the company is guiding clients into the next phase of change — artificial intelligence. The focus is on helping local businesses securely integrate AI into daily operations, improving productivity while protecting sensitive data.

This commitment to innovation is reflected in strong client retention, steady growth, and a proactive approach to risk management. By anticipating industry shifts and responding with practical solutions, Ascend Technology Group continues to help businesses adapt with confidence.

Aviture

Aviture is a Nebraska-based consulting and software engineering firm with more than two decades of proven impact in mission-critical government and commercial environments, combining the agility of a startup with the scale and discipline of enterprise delivery. Aviture embeds innovation into its operations. Through its Garage and broader Foundry ecosystem, the company invests in startup incubation, advanced research and development, and community-driven initiatives, ensuring a continuous pipeline of new ideas and capabilities. Innovation is central to its growth. This advancement significantly increased production capacity while expanding employment opportunities.

The organization continues to invest in adaptive machinery and facility design, ensuring that associates can perform a wide range of roles safely and effectively. They also offer multiple engagement options to accommodate a single project, an ongoing partnership, or something in between. This gives clients several ways to get the right level of support based on their needs, budget, and internal capacity.

Additional efforts, including Share the Wealth Omaha, promotes financial literacy and helps families build strong financial habits.

At First Interstate Bank, community engagement is rooted in a commitment to meet people where they are and help get them to where they want to be. With a culture built on courage, collaboration, and curiosity, the organization focuses on strengthening the communities it serves through meaningful partnerships and consistent investment.

In 2022, First Interstate Bank expanded its footprint into Nebraska through the acquisition of Great Western Bank. In 2025, the First Interstate Bank Foundation surpassed $100 million in philanthropic giving, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to community investment.

The organization empowers employees to contribute through programs such as Volunteer Day — when branches close to allow volunteer service — Believe in Local, and Gift/Donation Matching. Believe in Local distributes $1 million annually to nonprofit organizations nominated and selected by employees across the company’s footprint.

In the Omaha area, employees have completed volunteer projects, delivered financial literacy programming, and supported organizations focused on education, youth development, and basic needs.
