Although 2020 has tried to trip us up from all angles, that didn’t stop the Talent Attraction Committee for the Omaha Chamber Young Professionals Council from hosting one of our annual events. INTRO took place virtually on September 17th, 2020. INTRO is our “Get to Know Your City” event to welcome new residents of Omaha, transplants, boomerangs, and current residents to the area through a fun and welcoming environment.

The evening kicked off with an educational, enlightening, and motivating Diversity and Inclusion Panel that was moderated by Tiffany Session of the YP Council. We were proud to have incredible insights from our Panel, which consisted of Rachel D. Fox, founder of You Go Girl!, Cecil L. Hicks, Assistant Vice Chancellor UNO – Diversity, Equity, Access and Inclusion, Bassel El-Kasaby, founder of and immigration lawyer at Kasaby Law, and Katherine MacHolmes, co-founder and strategist of k+r strategies. The Panel shared their perspectives on Diversity and Inclusion, advice on starting conversation in the workplace, the benefits of diversity, and the importance of maintaining awareness and intentional engagement all year round.

Attendees then split into one of two breakout rooms for our first breakout sessions Omaha Food Scene and Omaha Integrative Care. Sarah Baker Hansen, former food critic and current food blogger, shared her insights on the Omaha food scene and highlighted her blog,, where she writes about her adventures with eating and drinking around Omaha. Stephanie Watson and Alicia Shelton with Omaha Integrative Care discussed with attendees the importance of mental health during COVID and how to navigate these unprecedented times.

The second round of breakout session featured the We Don’t Coast Ambassadors and Omaha Parks and Recreation. Olyvia Sell, Jason Feldman, Kath Derisson and Richard Larson teamed up as a panel from the “We Don’t Coast Ambassadors” to provide their insights on the best things to do in Omaha, how to get involved, and how to build your life here. The Ambassadors are ready to help the new residents to Omaha get settled in their new home. It’s so easy to connect with one of these great people! Check them out at Tracy Stratman, Recreation Manager at Omaha Parks and Recreation, shared the amazing outdoor parks and activities Omaha has to offer, as well as how to get involved in keeping Omaha beautiful and maintaining safe, available retreat’s in the city.
