Hello! My name is Rebecca (Martinez) Atkins and I am honored to have been selected as the 2021 YP Council Chair.
I was born and raised in South Omaha where I attended Omaha South High School. Following high school graduation, I moved to Lincoln for college and after beginning my professional career there, was eager to return home. I have since planted roots here with my husband Ty, and we are expecting our first child in February.
Having worked in higher education for over 8 years now, I can truly say that working with young adults is my passion. In addition to my professional work, I am also passionate about serving the community. Aside from the YP Council, I serve as a member of the YP Summit Planning Committee, as a board member at the Omaha Home for Boys, and as co-chair on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce in the College of Business Administration at UNO.
One of the many strengths of the YP Council is that we are a very mission-driven group. In 2021, I will bring a complementary focus on our vision and use that as my guiding force to lead the council. The YP Council’s vision of Omaha is: A dynamic, inclusive, and integrated community where diverse young professionals want to live, work and play.
While we are unsure of what is to come in 2021, I know that we will have one of the most passionate and diverse groups of young professionals working to make our community a better place. I look forward to leading and working alongside our council members to continue to bring the YP Council’s vision of Omaha to fruition.
