Have you thought about joining the Greater Omaha Chamber YP Council but have questions on who qualifies and what the commitment might be? Here is a list of frequently asked questions for some deeper insight.


What/Who is a Young Professional (YP)?

Our technical definition of a young professional (YP) is a person ages 21 to 40 who lives in the Greater Omaha area; but, it’s also a mindset. We want people who are passionate about the community and who are willing to put in the work to help foster change.


What is the group’s mission?

The Greater Omaha Chamber Young Professionals serve as a catalyst organization to retain, develop, and attract young professionals to the Greater Omaha area through engagement, opportunity and advocacy.


Do you have to be employed at a Greater Omaha Chamber company to apply?

While the majority of members on the YP Council are employed by Greater Omaha Chamber members, it will not affect your application score. We do however encourage you to join if you aren’t a member for all the great benefits!


What is the time commitment?

The time commitment varies based on your involvement once you are on the council but at base minimum it’s about 5 hours a month. The minimum requirement is two meetings a month, between 1-2 hours each, and a couple mandatory events spaced throughout the year including the YP Summit. Time commitment levels increase if you take on more responsibility within the group. You get out of it what you put in!


Are there any dues or fees?

There are no dues to apply; however if selected to become a member, dues are $100 for the entire year, which comes in the form of purchasing a YP Summit ticket.


When are applications open?

The applications will open on August 1, 2020 and they will close on August 30, 2020 at midnight. If you are interested in getting an email reminder, sign up here.

Three years


How many members get selected?

It ranges year to year, but roughly class sizes are 10-15.


What’s the interview process look like with Covid-19?

We are working on making our interview process safe for everyone involved! Therefore, we will not be hosting in-person interviews this year, but rather applicants will conduct a written application and video interview.
