April Small Business of the Month: Turner Technology

It has been a busy fourteen months for Turner Technology.

“We celebrated the 25th anniversary of our founding, completed a rebranding project, completed a major remodel of our space and became the first IT services company to win the BBB Integrity Award,” says managing partner Gary Bren.

Now, the team of 22 can add one more achievement to the list: The technology integration firm has been named the Chamber’s Small Business of the Month for April. Bren connects the company’s recognition and success to its core values:

  • We treat our clients and team like family.
  • We elevate others' success.
  • Our actions transcend titles.
  • We lead by example.

“These four statements – ‘The Turner Way’ – are at the heart of every decision we make.

They are lens we view our employees, customers and community through and the way have we run our company every day for the last 25 years.”

Winning Insights from Our April Winner:

  • Innovating and Keeping Entrepreneurial Spirit Alive

“Every client's business – even in the same industry – is different because of the different combinations of people and approaches to jobs. The only way to address that is to constantly innovate.”

  • Empower Employees and Creating a Culture in which They Can Grow and Succeed

“We provide a rich benefit program, including paid material/paternal leave, 95 percent of single employee health insurance, a 401K, and flexible working schedules among other benefits. We feel it's not how much our people work that matters, it's how we help them to be productive and find a work/life balance. These are some of the reasons we have a less than 2 percent turnover rate and why more than 95 percent of our employees rate themselves as ‘highly engaged’ or ‘engaged.’”

  • Best Practice Tip

“We believe failures should be avoided, but when they happen, they are opportunities for strong lessons in how raise the bar for performance.”

  • Community Involvement

“We believe that our responsibility to be an engaged partner doesn't end with our staff and clients, it also includes the community we live and work in. We donate approximately 5 percent of our annual revenues to charitable causes in the community. We also have a program called "Turner Helping Hands" where, every two months, we volunteer as a group at various organization around the community. These good works bring our team closer together, and we are a stronger team as a result.”
