Remarks by the President on Job Creation and Economic Growth (Dec. 8, 2009)
The majority of businesses throughout Greater Omaha are small businesses. The diversity of industries and employment opportunities provided by small businesses contributes to the economic stability of the region.
When it comes to the Chamber's more than 3,300 members more than 81 percent have 50 or fewer employees, 70 percent of have 25 or fewer employees, 53 percent 10 or fewer employees and 32 percent have four or fewer employees.
Through their membership, these businesses are able to access a full range of programs and resources that improve:
Visibility - with year-long networking opportunities through various social and promotional events, sponsorships, online business directory, the Chamber Web site and weekly electronic newsletter.
Knowledge - with continuing education opportunities through Chamber Academy, workforce and leadership development programs, special events and programs such as Customer Service 101, Cooling a Hot Situation, Sales 101, Sales for the Non-Salesperson, Networking 101, After the Handshake and Marketing 101, How to Market Through the Chamber.
Access - with the ability to take advantage of member-to-member opportunities and discounts, and even access local, state and national public policy and political decision-makers.

To further assist those interested in starting or building a business, the Greater Omaha Chamber and the Nebraska Business Development Center have prepared Keys to a Successful Business Start-Up. This document is a comprehensive guide to topics an entrepreneur should consider in starting a new business as well as a guide to the resources available to start-up businesses in Nebraska.
The Nebraska Business Development Center offers consulting services to new and existing businesses, as well as monthly seminars on such topics as: the legal formation of a business, how to write a business plan and funding options for starting a business.
